Antonio Illanes Rodriguez

(Spanish , b. 1901 - 1976 )

Antonio Illanes Rodríguez ( Umbrete , October 9, 1901 - Sevilla , May 2, 1976) was a Spanish sculptor specializing in religious imagery. He began his artistic training at the School of Arts and Crafts in Seville, where he studied with Francisco Marco, whom he considered his master forever. Indeed it is a letter addressed to his teacher Marco Illanes -and published in his book "the new study" - one of the most interesting to understand the artistic credo of this sculptor and his rejection of certain avant sources. Subsequently completed his training through a scholarship in Paris. In 1929 King Alfonso XIII imposed the Civil Order in recognition of the work developed for the Ibero-American Exposition in Seville (1929)...On May 2, 1976, died Antonio Illanes in Seville, because of rapid disease. Curiously, the Holy Christ of the Waters of the Brotherhood of Aguas de Sevilla, which he carved, lies in the Capilla del Rosario, located on Calle Dos May, the date of his death.
